The HTC Desire S – The Evolution of the Phone of the Year Award Winner Android Phone

Android Phone
When the Taiwanese phone giant HTC released its flagship on March of 2010, the Desire quickly made waves across the mobile phone community. It featured the best of what the Android smartphone operating system could do. With these capabilities, it quickly won the phone of the year award. However, with technology quickly evolving, its features have now become outdated. Thankfully, the Taiwan-based phone manufacturer gave its past flagship a refresh in March of this year. The Desire S was launched.
If you compare both the predecessor and the successor, you might not notice that much change. Their dimensions are relatively the same. The past version is 119 mm in height, 60 mm in width, and 11.9 mm in thickness. The current version is 115 mm in height, 59.8 mm in width, and 11.6 mm in thickness. The newer version is now lighter at 130 grams, compared to the past’s 135 grams. Both versions sport a 3.7 inch S-LDC capacitive touch screen.
If you take a look under the hood, there are slight differences. Both the predecessor and successor pack 1 GHz single-core processors under the hood. Both versions are equipped with 5 MP cameras. However, when we take a look at the memory, the HTC Desire S has the upper hand. It comes with 1.1 GB of ROM and 768 MB of RAM, compared to its predecessor’s 512 MB of ROM and 576 MB of RAM. This will significantly enhance the successor’s performance.
Going back to both of the smartphones’ cameras, both may come with the same megapixel count. However, the newer version will allow you to enjoy more from HD. The Desire’s video recording quality only offered WVGA videos. The refresh will allow you to enjoy more from 720p-quality videos straight out of the box. The original version will have to update to Android Froyo (version 2.2) to allow you to enjoy more from high-definition.
When it comes to Android iterations, the HTC Desire S comes pre-installed with the latest smartphone-optimized OS by Android. It comes pre-installed with Gingerbread. On its successor, the Gingerbread update will be coming soon. However, it comes at a price. When it rolls out, it will sacrifice a number of pre-loaded features to make way for the software upgrade. This is due to lack of memory on the former phone of the year award winner. With the HTC Desire S, you will enjoy the best Android has to offer straight out of the box.
